My new home in Munyonyo

That beautiful greenery you see in the background is swampland that feeds into Lake Victoria.  You can walk right up to the Papyrus, and see bogs of water everywhere.  Some people have started to build their houses right in the swamp.  They transfer soil from higher ground to a desired area (in the swamp), and hope that water levels don’t rise.  I recently learned that Papyrus burns on its own.  Sometimes you can see fires burning in the middle of the swamp.  My primary concern were the creatures that live there.  Not like the swamp thing, but more like snakes etc.  Lizards here are like squirrels back home.  They are everywhere and a bit of a nuisance to me.  Yesterday my bedroom was attacked by a swarm of insects (gnats?!).  I had forgotten to close my window at night, so they came in and covered my entire ceiling.  It was almost like a horror movie.  I was innocently lying on my bed reading, when a strange noise made me look up at the ceiling.  A cloud of insects was swarming around my light bulb.  My ceiling, curtains  and windows were covered in them.  It was so bad, it prompted my roommate to suspect witchcraft.  We somehow got rid of them.  That swamp however is no joke.
